GOTHIC II is a distinctive wall lamp, crafted from solid brass and designed by Bent Karlby in 1970. The premium, dual shade fixture emits soft bi-directional lighting that leaves a beautiful pattern on the wall, while the brushed surfaces are subtly illuminated through the narrow peepholes.

Origin story
Quite surprisingly, only limited information still exists about the series, making GOTHIC an intriguing bit of Danish design mystery. The GOTHIC name was a reference by Bent Karlby to the gothic architectural style that flourished throughout Europe from the 12th to the 16th century, which was characterized by tall narrow structures with pointed arches.
Lightscapes
On the wall, the geometric shapes adopt an organic and wavy look. The open top allows for upward lighting that leaves a striking pattern on the wall. Through the narrow peepholes - one of Karlby’s hallmarks - a small stream of light flows out and onto the curved brass shades.

CONCEPT & CRAFTSMANSHIP
The GOTHIC series consists of two wall lamps with one or two geometrical shades. Each shade is made from a solid brass plate with vertical brush lines that is folded down the centre to create its iconic, recognizable expression.

CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Turn off the lamp before cleaning it. Dust off with a dry soft cloth. Greasy spots can be removed with a soft cloth, wring it in lukewarm water containing a mild detergent. Never use strong or abrasive household cleaners for cleaning the lamp.
