A CELEBRATION OF LIGHT, MUSIC,AND GASTRONOMY
Epicurus is Copenhagen’s newest destination for those who appreciate fine dining and world-class jazz. Conceived by Lars Seier Christensen, Mads Bøttger, and Sir Niels Lan Doky, the venue blends Michelin-level cuisine with unforgettable musical experiences—set across two refined spaces: an à la carte restaurant and an intimate jazz club.

DESIGN ROOTED IN GREEKHERITAGE
The interior concept, created by GamFratesi, draws its name and soul from Epicurus—the ancient Greek philosopher whose teachings centered on pleasure, community, and the art of living. The design nods to traditional Greek pottery, where scenes of celebration, music, and conviviality were rendered in contrasting lines against dark backdrops. This visual language is translated into wood through intricate marquetry panels, meticulously hand-finished to bring a timeless narrative to the walls of the restaurant.

SPATIAL RHYTHMS AND MATERIALHARMONY
Guests enter through a sculptural travertine console, a statement of permanence and historical reverence, before descending into the jazz club. Here, the mood shifts. Smoked oak paneling creates an atmosphere of intimacy and resonance, allowing the music to fully inhabit the space. The restaurant above, by contrast, pays homage to the building’s past, where original elements are thoughtfully paired with modern additions, creating a dialogue of textures and tones.

LIGHT AS A DESIGN LANGUAGE
To shape the lightscape of Epicurus, GamFratesi collaborated with LYFA on three new designs: RYFF, TOTON, and NOOTE—each created specifically for the project and now part of LYFA’s permanent collection. RYFF, a wall lamp with sculpted glass, captures the movement and rhythm of music through its textured surface. TOTON, a large pendant, pairs a metal lens with a soft fabric diffuser to create a refined yet grounded atmosphere. NOOTE, a portable table lamp for the jazz club, blends 1930s elegance with contemporary clarity, offering a warm, intimate glow that enhances every note and conversation.

A NOD TO TIMELESS ELEGANCE
In addition to the custom-designed pieces, a selection of LYFA classics was chosen to enrich the atmosphere. The MEMOIR adds a subtle sculptural presence, offering softly diffused light that enhances the sense of calm throughout the space. Complementing this, the GOVERNOR TABLE brings mid-century sophistication to the setting with its rich combination of solid brass and walnut—an enduring design that blends beautifully into the layered, tactile world of Epicurus.
