Pendants
Our selection of high-quality pendants features direct, indirect and diffuse lighting that serve a wide range of purposes. Pendants can be used throughout the home such as above the dining table, as part of the kitchen workspace, to illuminate the desk or create an ambient atmosphere over the coffee table.
Different types of light
We operate with three different types of light - direct, indirect and diffused lighting. A direct light highlights surfaces or supports tasks whereas an indirect pendant ensures a glare-free and calm light. A diffused light emits the light through a translucent surface creating an ambient, overall and non-directional illumination of the room. Read more about each type of light below.
When selecting a pendant, it is a matter of matching the pendant with the interior and architecture. The dimensions of the pendant should follow the size of the room. Large pendants can be centre pieces, draw attention and serve as a sculptural statement, which are ideal for open spaces with high ceilings - whereas smaller pendants can create a more intimate atmosphere in small rooms and settings. Use three or more pendants in different sizes pendants as a cluster or hang same-sized pendants in a row to establish a compelling expression and beautiful visual repetition.
Choosing the right height
We recommend that a pendant should be between 65-75 cm above a dining table to ensure a direct view under the lamp – measured from the tabletop to the lowest point of the pendant. Above a kitchen countertop, our recommended height is 85-90 cm between the pendant and tabletop. In a hallway or corridor where passage is required, the pendant should hang no lower than 200 cm from the floor to the bottom of the pendant.
Shape, construction and material
These three elements are essential when choosing the ideal pendant. An open, conical metal shade creates a directed downlight such as our MOSAIK and NINOTCHKA pendants making them ideal for illuminating a limited or specific area. An opal glass shade emits a diffused light through the translucent surface and evenly spreads the light in all directions as seen with our PEANUT and ERGO pendants. A pendant with multiple shades uses its reflections to indirectly light up the surroundings like our VERONA and DIVAN 2.
Depending on the architecture, interior and desired illumination, choosing the ideal pendant should be based on the following questions:
