An icon turning 75 years

PEANUT

In 1946, Bent Karlby designed the mid-century classic and still today, PEANUT is loved and admired for its unique shape and delicate light.

Designed by Bent Karlby

The PEANUT lamp was introduced in 1946, at a time when fluorescent lighting was gaining widespread popularity across society. But like many of his fellow contemporaries, Karlby shared a strong distaste for this harsh and cold lighting. With its organic shapes and elegant brass detailing – complete with Karlby’s hallmark peepholes – PEANUT became his solution for soft and pleasant room lighting that was equally appealing to look at.

NINOTCHKA

NINOTCHKA is a genuine and easily recognizable design icon, designed by Bent Karlby in 1954. When giving shape to this lamp, Bent Karlby had taken note of an eye-catching hat, worn by the Swedish Hollywood star Greta Garbo in her 1939 film, Ninotchka. The organic body with its asymmetric drapes ensures functional direct downlight and diffused ambient uplight.

MOSAIK

Bent Karlby is known for his soft light, organic shapes and hallmark peepholes. During his career, Karlby moved more towards pure geometric shapes such as the cone, cylinder and arc along with playful colours as seen with the MOSAIK series.

DIVAN 2

DIVAN 2 is a truly captivating pendant designed by Simon P. Henningsen in 1962. The carefully positioned trapezoids - mirror on the outside and multicoloured on the inside - enact a fascinating display of indirect light. The downlight is soft and comfortable. A sculptural piece of art, still hand-assembled to perfection. You can see the updated version in solid brass by following the link: DIVAN 2 Brass

VERONA

VERONA is a sophisticated 8-shade pendant that provides soft, glare-free lighting with timeless grace and simplicity. When lit, the spherical pendant beautifully self-illuminates, making for a striking display in itself. VERONA was designed by Sven Middelboe in 1968.

PAN

The PAN series is a beautiful example of Bent Karlby’s unique talent for capturing the zeitgeist of an area and turning it into designs that would come to transcend their inspiration. During the 1970s, when Pop Art was trending, the early PAN lamps would have colored insides. Today, the fixtures have monochrome surfaces of anodized aluminum, transforming them into contemporary design pieces suitable for modern living.

GOTHIC

Quite surprisingly, only limited information still exists about the series, making GOTHIC an intriguing bit of Danish design mystery. The GOTHIC name was a reference by Bent Karlby to the gothic architectural style that flourished throughout Europe from the 12th to the 16th century, which was characterized by tall narrow structures with pointed arches.

ERGO

True to its 1970s space-age heritage, the first ERGO lamps came in popping colors and were made entirely from plastic. While retaining its characteristic design language, ERGO has grown into a premium piece of lighting design. The plastic materials have now given way for a 3-layered opalized glass core and a colored glass shade

REPOSE

With its geometric interplay between the organic shapes and the straight line passing through the shade, the REPOSE series is designed to bring serenity of mind. The simplicity and functionality of traditional Japanese hair pins provided a spark of inspiration for the design. Focusing on the balance point that creates a serene and suspended feeling of balance while giving great importance to the smallest detail of the lamp. With its calm and contemporary expression, REPOSE is intended to ease your mind and illuminate living spaces.
